You’ve had a tooth extracted, now what?
- After your tooth is extracted, it may feel a bit different
- It’s recommended you rest well for the day
- Try to keep to a soft food diet (mashed potatoes, smoothies, yogurt etc.)
- Stay away from hot or spicy food and drinks. In addition to this, don’t use any straws or perform any actions which introduce a negative pressure (sucking action) in the mouth. This can dislodge the blood clot which is crucial to your healing following the extraction
- Avoid drinking alcohol or smoking while you’re healing as these can also greatly affect your healing
- Bruising and swelling are normal reactions and should resolve after 3 to 7 days.
- You may need to take some pain medication as directed by your dentist
- If you have any questions or concerns following your procedure, please do not hesitate to contact us. We understand that it can be an intimidating and new experience, and our dentists at Northpoint Dental will be more than happy to help you navigate your way through it.
